Canadian Solar is deploying its innovative anti-hail photovoltaic modules at the Coonawarra Energy Project in South Australia, in partnership with Melbourne-based energy retailer Flow Power. This initiative marks the first installation of Canadian Solar’s anti-hail technology in the country.
The anti-hail modules, part of Canadian Solar’s CS6.2 series, are engineered to withstand severe hail impacts, certified to endure 55mm iceballs traveling at 122 km/h, exceeding standard IEC 61215 requirements. These enhancements aim to reduce operating and maintenance costs by minimizing weather-related damages and associated insurance premiums.
Dr. Shawn Qu, Chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar, emphasized that this project demonstrates the company’s commitment to providing durable and high-performance solutions tailored to Australia’s challenging environments.
Flow Power’s General Manager of Energy Projects, Tom Harrison, highlighted the collaboration as a step towards building more resilient energy infrastructure. The Coonawarra project is expected to be the first of multiple sites across Australia to utilize this advanced technology.
